Click on a question to get the answer: How did FocusAnywhere
start?
Dan Jarrett and Dan Lee, owners of two separate market
research firms, saw the need for a service that could organize and conduct
focus groups in markets that didn't have traditional, standing facilities.
After years of organizing and recruiting small-market focus groups around
the country, we realized this was a service not being provided to
researchers on a professional, full-time basis. What services does
FocusAnywhere provide? Do we have to use all your services?
Certainly not. You are welcome to use
FocusAnywhere as a full service focus group provider, or select our
services a la carte. It's up to you. Who needs opinions from
smaller markets?
There are two types of researchers who use
FocusAnywhere:
(1) Researchers whose clients have customers or prospects in
specific, smaller markets, and realize that opinions from distant metro
markets are not relevant to their projects.
(2) Researchers who feel that some metro markets have been
"over-studied" – too many participants used too many times for too many
sessions. Where are your focus groups actually held?
It depends upon your needs, but typically
FocusAnywhere arranges for adjoining conference rooms in a
mid-range hotel in the desired market. One room serves as the
discussion room, the other as the observation room. How do observers view the discussion?
FocusAnywhere arranges for a camera in the discussion
room and a TV monitor in the observation room, so that clients and
researchers can watch the discussion discreetly. Typically,
videotapes and audio recordings are made of the session at the same time
using the AV equipment. Do we have to use Focus Anywhere moderators?
Certainly not. In fact, many of our clients are
moderators themselves, who simply need the services of FocusAnywhere
to take care of the details involved in setting up and recruiting the
groups. This allows the moderators to do what they do best –
moderate. Do you have moderators if we need one? Yes, we do. We have moderators who are affiliated with FocusAnywhere.
If you have the need for a moderator with a particular specialty, we can
also locate the appropriate moderator from the member roster of the Qualitative
Research Consultants Association (QRCA). You name the topic; we'll
locate a qualified moderator.
Depending upon your needs and your budget,
FocusAnywhere can provide a focus group host or hostess for the
session(s). The host/hostess is responsible for participant sign-in,
advance forms and paperwork, table cards, and delivering incentives at the
end of the session. If you elect to have Who transcribes the sessions afterward?
Once again, it's up to you. You can take care of your
own transcription work, or we will provide transcribing services for you
through FocusAnywhere.
Our professionally-trained and experienced staff of
researchers will write the report if you'd like. We provide top-line
reports in 3-4 days, full reports in 7-10 days, and full reports with
verbatims in 11-14 days after the last focus group. Can I use FocusAnywhere in a market that has a focus group facility?
We welcome the chance to serve you in any market, facility
or not. FocusAnywhere does not attempt to compete with
traditional facilities. However, many researchers have found that
some facilities aren't available when they need them, or they can't find
the type of facility that suits their needs.
Yes. Some clients prefer that sessions be held in a
traditional facility (if available), while FocusAnywhere is
assigned to recruit the participants from untapped databases and
directories. How do you handle incentive payments?
If you elect to have FocusAnywhere supply a host or
hostess, that individual will bring the incentive cash and distribute it
at the end of the session. If you arrange for hosting yourself, you would
provide the incentives to the participants. How do I pay for your services?
When we provide a price quote to you, we will specify how
much is owed and by when. FocusAnywhere handles all aspects
of the project, so you get a single itemized invoice at the conclusion of
the project. Our projects require an advance payment to initiate the work.
If we are handling incentives, then the full amount of the incentives is
due 10 days prior to the first group.
Generally, the cost is no more than you would expect from
the average focus group facility. We always state that the final
price may vary by as much as 10%, which enables us to account for small,
but unexpected costs in the course of the project. |
